LipoCryo Cold Lipolysis

What is it ?
Lipocryolysis is a new technology that results in localized fat reduction within a selective and noninvasive procedure.

How does it work ?
A special transducer is posicioned on the selected area in order to combinate vacuum action to capture the subcutaneous tissue and selective cryotechnology to cool it. The fat cells (adipocytes) in the subcutaneous tissue (under dermis) are mostly saturated fatty acids rich cells, and as a consequence, especially sensitive to cold exposure; on the other hand, the contiguous elements such as blood vessels, peripheral nerves, melanocytes, fibrocytes, or poor fatty cells are much less sensitive to cool exposure. This characteristic definitely results in the adipocytes elimination without damage of the surrounding tissues.
How fat cells are eliminated ?
The elimination process of exposed adipocytes to LipoCryo action is as follows :

- Directly by cristalization, followed by apoptosis and progressive cell dissolution with gradual lipids release during 2 to 6 weeks time.
- Indirectly as a consequence of the sympathetic nervous system stimulation that will induce lipolysis.
How many sessions will we need ?
According to the adipose tissue thickness and the wished reduction, we will need from 1 to 3 sessions. Preferably waiting time between 2 sessions will be aprox. 45 days.

What will the results be and when will the patient see the results ?
Depending on the initial adipose tissue thickness, the average loss will be from 3 to 15 mm; in terms of loss percentage of adipose tissue, the equivalence is 25% to 45%. Aprox. 40% of the result will be visible at 15 days, but we will have to wait 6 weeks as a minimum to appreciate the main results . At this moment we will decide the convenience of another session or not.

How long is the application ?
According to the treating area extension, it can be necessary more than a single application to cover the whole area. For instance we will need 2 applications for abdominal area, 1 for each “love handles”, and 2 for lower back . Each applicaton will last from 20 to 30 min, depending on the adipose tissue thickness. Therfore, depending on the size of the treating area and the adipose tissue thickness, the time session can last from 20 to 180 min.

Who is the ideal candidate for LipoCryo procedure ?
LipoCryo is specially indicated for local adiposities: the ideal candidate is not the obese patient with general adiposity, but the one who wants to reduce local fat concentrated for instance on abdomen, flanks, lower back, arms…

What does the patient feels during and after the session ?
The procedure is not painful for the patients; they will feel a slight tension close to the treated area due to the vacuum effect, and an intense cold local feeling, mainly at the beginning of the procedure. And after the session:

- Usually: Redness and numbness on the treated zone that can last a couple of hours after the session.
- Exceptionally: slight hematoma that will resorb within a few day. The patient can incorporate to normal activity without especial discomfort immediately after the session.
Main difference compared with other procedures ?
The Lipocryo system for selective an controlled adipocytes cooling results in a notable and natural reduction of fat tissue, avoiding the traumatic experience of invasive methods (liposuction), and preventing from the risk of damage on contiguous tissues as it can occur with radiofrequencies, focalized ultrasounds or lasers..
Are the results definitive ?
The adipocytes that will be eliminated by Lipocryo procedure will gradually release their lipids first, before being definitively absorbed by the natural body metabolism.

Precedents
Through the analyze of some well known observations, it has been possible to deduce that adipose tissue is preferencially sensitive to cold exposure and injury :

- A cold induced fat necrosis in infants has been well documented (popsicle paniculitis).
- Inflammation of the buccal fatty tissue after a prolonged contact with frozen food (ice creams) in children.
- Damaging on adipose tissue of contact areas in women after horse riding with tight pants in cold countries (equestrian paniculitis).
The step by step process
The LipoCryo introduces cooling in the adipose tissue (or, the same, extracts heat from the adipose tissue) through a selective and controlled procedure in order to obtain less tan 10ºC temperature at adipocytes level during a specified duration.
